Viking Line’s passenger traffic ended
Port’s major investments did not attract passengers or new companies quite as planned. Traffic with giant ferries stopped short and Viking Line’s vessel service to Naantali faded out. Instead of the brand new Isabella, older vessels such as M/S Diana, M/S Rosella and M/S Turella were placed on the route.
The traffic was discontinued completely in 1996, although the contract was valid until 2002. Investments of tens of millions of Finnish markka had been made for Viking Line by the Port. There had been great financial expectations for the passenger traffic, and now it ended completely.
