A training session held in the spring strengthened personnel\u2019s understanding of the environmental impacts of port operations and provided a foundation for developing the port\u2019s own biodiversity roadmap.<\/p>\n<p>The port intends to advance its work in line with the roadmap prepared by the Finnish Port Association (Suomen Satamat ry).<\/p>\n<p>The roadmap sets out clear targets and milestones for member ports:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>2026:<\/strong> Increasing expertise within the sector and member companies<\/li>\n<li><strong>2027:<\/strong> Assessing and evaluating the port\u2019s baseline situation<\/li>\n<li><strong>2028:<\/strong> Preparing the port\u2019s biodiversity strategy and setting its own targets<\/li>\n<li><strong>2029:<\/strong> Implementing new measures to enhance biodiversity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Biodiversity is a key element of sustainable port operations. Port activities are often associated with drivers of biodiversity loss, such as land use changes, emissions, and pollution. At the same time, ports can play a significant role in advancing solutions.<\/p>\n<p>The objective is to move towards nature-positive operations, where negative impacts are reduced and biodiversity is actively strengthened.
