The Port of Naantali is one of the most significant ports for cement imports in Finland. In 2022, the volume of cement imported via the Port of Naantali totalled nearly 160,000 tonnes. The Port of Naantali is one of the most significant ports for cement imports in Finland. In 2022, the volume of cement imported via the Port of Naantali totalled nearly 160,000 tonnes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Last October, a new cement terminal was completed for Stevena Oy in Naantali, increasing the warehousing capacity of cement considerably. The warehousing capacity of the terminal nearly doubled to stand at 10,000 m3<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Cement imports have long traditions in Naantali, as the operations started in the early 1990s. The cement is imported by SCHWENK Suomi Oy which markets and distributes high-quality cement to the Finnish market from the group\u2019s modern cement plant in Broceni, Latvia. The cement is delivered to the customers by silo trucks from the ship terminals located in Naantali, Loviisa and Joensuu.<\/p>\n

SCHWENK Suomi offers its customers high-quality CE-marked CEM I 52,5 N Portland cement. The cement plant in Broceni is certified in accordance with the following quality systems: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 50001.<\/p>\n

The co-operation between SCHWENK and Stevena<\/a> in the Port of Naantali has lasted seamlessly for more than 30 years. SCHWENK operates in a terminal owned by port operator Stevena which was expanded most recently around 10 years ago.<\/p>\n

Last year, Stevena implemented together with SCHWENK an expansion project of the new cement terminal, the total cost of which was nearly MEUR 2. The construction work commenced in 2021, the foundation was completed at Christmas 2021, the erection of the silo started at the turn of the year, and the terminal was introduced in October. The investment increased the warehousing capacity of cement considerably. The new cement silo also allows for the imports of completely new types of cement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new expanded terminal is also expected to increase vessel traffic in the Port of Naantali. Ships carrying cement call in Naantali almost on a weekly basis.<\/p>\n

\u201dThe Naantali cement terminal is known as a highly efficient terminal and operates on 24\/7 basis. The loading of trucks is smooth and perhaps the fastest in Finland. The loading capacity of trucks in the new terminal is also efficient\u201d, says Markku M\u00e4kipere, CEO of Stevena Oy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Bulk cement from Naantali is distributed mostly to Western and Southern Finland.<\/p>\n

Stevena also operates in the Naantali Luonnonmaa port where it warehouses a wide range of recycled products (e.g. crushed glass, foam glass), and bulks e.g. plastic granules and cement directly into silo trucks. Foam glass is made from recycled glass. It can be used e.g. as substitute for light expanded clay aggregates and as insulation for the base floor of a house. Foam glass is shipped from Naantali to export markets, such as England.<\/p>\n
