The project aims to improve the safety and efficiency of maritime fairways through digitalization. In the project, floating as well as land-based aids to navigation will be equipped with devices for remote monitoring and control as well as environmental sensors. The fairway data produced by the aids to navigation will be integrated with other fairway and port data by combining several, currently separate, data and control systems into a single digital service cloud. In addition, the project will pilot monitoring of sulphur emissions from marine transportation transport by utilising aids to navigation, and alternative energy sources for them.<\/p>\r\n
The project partners are Arctia Meritaito, the Port of Stockholm and the Port of Naantali. The innovative new technologies of the project will be piloted in the ports. The project outcomes will be available and interoperable for several different end-users, such as other sea and inland ports as well as authorities.<\/p>\r\n
Project objectives<\/h4>\r\n\r\n- Developing and piloting the InSea platform, which will integrate the currently separate control systems, port and fairway related data and the data coming from the aids to navigation into a single digital service cloud. This will increase the safety of navigation as well as the efficiency of operations.<\/li>\r\n
- Piloting alternative renewable energy sources for the smart buoys, thereby guaranteeing their self-sufficiency. Two technological solutions will be examined, namely methanol fuel cells and solar panels.<\/li>\r\n
- Piloting compliance monitoring of SOX<\/sub> emissions from ships on fairways by employing smart floating navigational buoys. Remotely monitored sniffer stations will record the emissions of passing sea vessels and operate on a continuous basis. The data from the sniffers will help e.g. the Port State Control authorities to decide if there is a need for an on-board check or other port control actions.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

( in 2016-2019)<\/strong><\/p>\r\nHAZARD project aims at mitigating the effects of major accidents and emergencies in major multimodal seaports in the Baltic Sea Region.<\/p>\r\n
The project enables better preparedness, co-ordination and communication, more efficient actions to reduce damages and loss of life in emergencies, and handling of post-emergency situations by improving implementation of safety and security standards and regulations,\u00a0interoperability of resources, communication between key stakeholders,\u00a0usage of risk analysis methods and adoption of new technologies. The types of safety and security emergency include, for example, leakages of hazardous materials, fires on passanger ships at port, oil spills in port areas as well as explosions of gases or chemicals.<\/p>\r\n

Better preparedness through joint exercises, improved communication in emergencies, better compliance of regulatory frameworks, enhancing the use of risk assessment methods, faster adoption of state-of- the-art technologies.<\/p>\r\n

This project provides a unique transnational learning platform, where Rescue Services and Seaports can evaluate and improve their procedures and practices in emergencies supported by strong knowledge partners. The direct exposure to Baltic Sea Regions peers will help Rescue Services and Seaports to enchance their knowledge of current practices, thereby strengthening their capabilities in various type of safety and security incidents.<\/p>\r\n
